There are many drive cleaners each of which approaches the problem of cleaning up
a hard drive by adopting different methods. One of the more common file scanning types is the content scanner,
and for the better ones you can often obtain a free trial. This is not the only
function that these utilities are able to do, many can also clean up orphaned data,
detect and remove pornography, detect the presence of illegal or unlicensed software,
and help you find where all the space has gone on your drive.
Although cleaning up your hard disk content is worth doing, you have to make sure you have
also considered the risks before going ahead. We must consider the likelihood that
personal files may accidentally be erased during the use of automated scanner software or
by accident when manually selecting files and folders for deletion. Remember too
that the removal of unneeded files using either method, takes your time, more so
when cleaning manually but even using software for the task will take time as well.
For most people these risks are minimal and the benefits clearly override any of
these negatives.
